We all know that rich media (images, videos, etc.) get more clout when it comes to Facebook's EdgeRank. This social media tip acts as a guide on how to create Facebook images for your social media marketing strategy, even when you don't have a highly visual product or brand.
For many it can be a challenge to create a plethora of images that represent your company. Creating images that spark engagement can be even more difficult.
I am by no means a graphic designer and I have also worked with several B2B clients; this makes for creating a consistent, engaging Facebook strategy increasingly difficult week after week.
While advertising on Facebook is a surefire way to get your images/content in front of more people (when done correctly), I am always trying to look for clever ways to create images/engaging content organically.
Here are some solutions I have come up with:
1. Quotes- We all have some favorite quotes or words of wisdom that in a way represent our brand and inspire our products. Why not put those words over a captivating image?Verily Magazine, an awesome lifestyle blog I follow does a great job of this. They take famous, inspirational quotes and put them over a photo every day in a series called the "Daily Dose." This is great because it's utilizing the quote concept and the series concept. 2. Contests- Try creating a contest for fans that requires them to send in their photos. Perhaps they are photos exhibiting your product, or maybe it's based on a theme. Not only will you generate increased engagement, you'll also have a stash of photos that you can later re-purpose in your Facebook strategy.
3. Screenshots- This is something I find helpful when sharing an article or blog post with an engaging l image or interesting graph within it. I do this frequently for the ad agency. For example, earlier today I took a screen shot of the photo in an article, linked to the article, used some relevant hashtags and gave credit to the publisher of the article. Now instead of just sharing an article I used an image, helped categorize the post for easier search finds with hashtags and gave a shout-out to the blog I got the article form. See how the chances for engagement have increased?
4. Series- I recently saw that Bank of America does "Travel Tuesday" posts. Each Tuesday they highlight a different place they've traveled to with a fun photo. If you find a way to work in a series for a specific topic, in this case, travel, not only do you provide an engaging image, but you also have at least one consistent idea for images. Furthermore if you pick a topic or event that your target market connects with, it'll become a reason for followers to regularly check out your page. (This could easily be combined with #2.)
5. Get Personal- While I wouldn't recommend flaunting numerous details about your personal life on your business page, a post every once in a while highlighting the behind the scenes activities of your company is a great way to bring a personal and transparent touch to your page while creating engaging photos. For example, the photo below was a shot taken of one of the owners of True at the recent Dwell on Design conference in LA. The photo got a much higher level of engagement than most other posts.
6. Emphasize location- Is your company based in a unique location? Try starting a series of captivating shots of the city or region you are located in. For example, say you are based in San Francisco, you could start a series of famous shots around the city i.e. the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's wharf, etc. The possibilities are endless. Sense of shared place is generally a factor that instantly sparks a feeling of connection. If you live in an image friendly place, i.e. San Francisco, why not make use of the photo opportunities in your every day travels? You'll get great shots and emphasize a bond between your target market and your brand.
The most important thing to remember when using images is to always, always, always give credit where credit is due!
