As is the tradition on this lovely holiday, people state what it is they are thankful for.
This year I'm thankful for the best piece of advice my father, and his father, continuously said to me:
"Never stop learning."
When applied to the world of inbound marketing, this becomes a social media tip worth abiding by.
Social media changes daily. The platforms we use are continuously updating, creating the latest and greatest ways to simply get your marketing messages out there and interact with your customers.
In order to be successful in social media, you can not afford to stop learning.
The best way to do so?
Reading. Writing. Doing.
Reading: Read constantly. If I didn't read industry blogs daily I would never be able to keep up with the latest changes and trends in this industry. By seeking out the best ways to absorb content, and then actually setting aside time to do so, I find I get a variety of information from a variety of different industry professionals.

Writing: I write this blog to offer helpful information to business owners trying to understand the best ways to utilize social media for their marketing efforts. By writing social media tips and how-to posts for that target market, I find I'm constantly focusing in on best practices. Sometimes the knowledge is all there in my head, but until I sit down to write out focused advice step by step, it doesn't all make sense.
Doing: I am fortunate that I get to work with a variety of clients every day. THANK YOU. I get to try out new things, implement best practices and monitor social media campaigns daily. Often, people ask me whether or not I prefer to work with B2B or B2C clients, and, quite honestly, I enjoy both. Both types of clients offer up a whole new set of challenges and are generally performing on a different set of platforms. By working with both I get to stay up on all the big social media platforms and what works on each.
Combined, these three social media tips create a formula for success.
Here's a breakdown of how: by reading about latest trends and best practices, I can then adapt them into my clients' strategies. Then, after I've seen what works and what doesn't work for my client based on their objectives I have valuable, first hand experience and knowledge about these trends and best practices. By adhering to this strategy of reading, writing and doing, I find I am continuously learning and, in turn, bettering myself in the world of inbound marketing.
